For three years I have lived near the border of New Mexico and Mexico. Surrounded by the complex issues that arise in the border lands, I have been challenged personally and artistically. This new series has showed me much more than the actual division between states or countries, or even the edges of my paintings. Borders are shared spaces. Crossroads. Opposite banks of the same river. They are places where fairy tales mingle with reality, where life and death meet, where the awake state and the sleep state merge.  Borders are places of transformation. ___________                    Borderlands and Fairytales        acrylic on canvas, 24 x 24“
