PAINTING I Introduction to the use of oil paint and application of the formal elements of painting. Students are guided through a series of still life and technique assignments to strengthen their abilities to understand the language of color, see form, value, spacial depth, and texture.
DRAWING I Through a variety of still life assignments, the student explores methodologies of materials, and builds on formal ways of seeing to develop drawings that delve into full value, positive and negative space, reflective surface, pattern, and texture. PAINTING II Students further develop their abilities in the basic skills of painting through a variety of assignments using oil paint and photographs as source material as well as painted sketches and/or settings in a natural environment.
DRAWING II Through observation students strengthen their skills in drawing and expanded their vocabulary of mark making. Three dimensional forms, light and shadow, and a variety of media is explored as well as an introduction to figure drawing. PAINTING III Students begin to explore their own personal ideas and narratives for paintings while further developing technical and critical skills. |
